A lawsuit commenced by the mother of a dog bite victim was recently resolved out of court.
Trudy Stewart commenced a civil lawsuit against Dixon Drive
residents Gregorio and Blanca Perez after her son, Randy Chazz Fearon
-- sometimes called Chazz -- was bitten on the hand by a pit bull
staying with them in July 2005; it actually belonged to their adult
daughter.
Stewart's lawyer, Matt Lalande with Haber and Associates
Lawyers, said the amount of the recent settlement can't be disclosed,
but that the money will go toward savings for Randy's education.
The bite occurred when Randy walked in front of the Perezes'
home just as Blanca was taking the dog, Loco, out for a walk. Randy
required stitches to close the wound.
"This experience that Chazz underwent was very traumatic for him," Lalande said.
"Since that time, Chazz has endured upsetting nightmares which
re-enact the incident involving the pit bull and now he has an extreme
fear of dogs."
Stewart declined to comment on the case.
It was recently decided at Ontario Provincial Offences court
that the dog wouldn't be put down as the Oakville Humane Society had
called for, but would essentially be under house arrest.
