CTVToronto.ca reported a few accident over the past few weeks in or around highway 400 near Toronto and surrounding areas. The accidents were caused by snoqsqualls:
Snowsqualls were behind several crashes in the wider GTA, including
one that left a Lindsay man critically injured, says the OPP.
"I haven't heard of any more recently. It's those snowsqualls: They
come up, they go away and then we get it all cleared up," OPP Sgt. Dave
Woodford told ctvtoronto.ca on Friday.
The worst accident occurred on Highway 35/115 southbound, south of
the Highway 35 junction and near Mosport raceway. It involved three
vehicles.
Two cars spun out on the slick highway. A third vehicle then struck them.
The injured man was airlifted to the trauma centre at Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto.
"He's not doing too good. He's still in critical condition and they're bringing in a specialist," Woodford said.
No serious injuries were reported on southbound Highway 400 just south of Highway 88, he said.
Woodford said driving conditions are generally great in his area of coverage as of Friday afternoon.
But when snowsqualls threaten, it's important that people adjust to the conditions, he said.
When the squalls hit, "it's like a different world," he said, noting visibility can drop to nothing in an instant.
Environment Canada has ended its snowsquall warnings for southern Ontario.
Overnight, however, some northern Toronto suburbs and pockets of
York Region got up to 15 centimetres of snow. Highway 400 got a serious
dusting near Barrie.
