Katherine

Katherine was called on the Ontario Bar in 1980 after receiving her B.A. (Philosophy) at the University of Winnipeg in her home town, and her LL.B. at McGill University. She moved to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories to work as an associate lawyer in a law firm practicing in litigation, criminal and family law. When Katherine returned to Ontario she practiced as a junior lawyer in the area of civil and family litigation with David S. Crane, Q.C.,  as well as several years practicing exclusively  family law with Martin and Martin, in the Hamilton area before becoming staff lawyer for the C.A.W. Legal Services Plan in Oakville, Ontario .

Katherine scaled back her practice while raising her three children and worked as a part time associate lawyer at Kyle & van der Steen LLP for ten years. After one year practicing family law with Stoner & Company in Burlington, she returned to practice in Oakville as an associate lawyer with Kyle & Associates where she dedicated her time to her family law clients. In April, 2017 Katherine joined Haber & Associates in Burlington as an associate lawyer, devoting her time to the firm’s family law clients, in order to provide them with the support they need to reach a fair resolution. Katherine recently completed the Family Law mediation course through Riverdale Mediation in Toronto, and her Certificate in Elder Law through Osgoode Hall.

In addition to her practice, Katherine is a member of the Board of Directors of the Halton County Law Association, on the executive of the Family Law Section and Child and Youth Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association. She is a mentor lawyer to young lawyers who are proceeding to be licensed to practice law in Ontario through the Law Practice Program at Ryerson University, and a tutor in family law for the Law Society of Upper Canada Bar Admission Program.  Katherine also volunteers at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, in the Hospital Elder Life Program and Welcome program.
